Tropicana in Atlantic City Helps Get Rid of the Grinch for the Holidays
Photos, story by Cassie Hepler We’re not going to lie. We were feeling a little bit like a Grinch this holiday season. But somehow a weekend girls trip to the Tropicana in Atlantic City, N.J. made us get in the spirit of the season by the end of the weekend. We even ended up getting a few unexpected gifts for family and friends! Upon arrival, it is good to know there are two parking lots. Since we were staying all weekend, we opted for the $10 for the whole weekend lot (that’s only $5 a day, a steal in AC)! We parked on P2 (or was it 2P?) but regardless, know…

Kun-Yang Lin Dancers Explore What Philly Really Means in “HOME/S. 9th St.”
Story, photos by Jill Beckel (unless otherwise noted) What does “home” mean to you? Is it your childhood home, your current home or maybe a place you visited once that felt like the home you never had? Maybe it’s a mix of a lot of feelings and images. Home is not the same for everyone. The world premiere of Home/S. 9th St. took place at FringeArts right near Penn’s Landing with shows on Nov. 19th, 20th and 21st. The notions of “home” and “American-ness” were discovered in part through stories of residents living on Philly’s diverse South 9th Street where the Kun-Yang Lin Dancers rehearse at CHI Movement Arts Center. Kun-Yang Lin teaches CHI Awareness Technique…

Cornerstone Cheese and Charcuterie Brings Urban Flair to Suburban Wayne
Story by Mike Madaio, Photos by Stephanie Frederick The one thing about Wayne – the arguable heart and soul of the new Main Line – is that it’s a town awash in sameness. At the center of the restaurant district, for example, there’s a popular pub that serves bar and comfort food. Yet on that same block, there are three other gastropubs (of varying quality levels) doing the same. Just around that corner, there’s a brick oven pizza shop. Its pies are top notch, but that doesn’t change the fact that, across the street sits another brick oven joint, and next door is a traditional ‘za shop. Wayniacs aren’t exactly…

Take a Private Beer Tour with Home Brewed Events and Philly Tour Hub
Story, photos by Jordan Price The folks at Home Brewed Events know their stuff. Self-proclaimed “beer-based education event planners”, they offer homebrewing classes in the home, beer tasting classes, food pairings, and more. But until now, they’ve kept their events mostly… well…. in the home. Just in time for the holiday season, though, they’ve paired with the awfully nice people at Philly Tour Hub to offer a one-of-a-kind experience perfect for the discerning homebrewing bunch, the beer aficionados, the bachelor or bachelorette party, the birthday babes…. really, anyone who’s got an interest in beer and brewing. We were lucky enough to take part in a preview of their new offering: The Private Beer Tour. Starting…

Sake To Me: Yakitori Boy Debuts Educational Sake Tasting, Tapas and Celebrates 8 Years
Story, photos by Cassie Hepler Everyone knows Yakitori Boy is one of the best places in the city for karaoke (and the other being on this epic Chinatown eating guide). Leading the way for eight years now as of Wednesday, Dec. 2 with a VIP bash (Happy Birthday!), the drinks are reliable, tasty, strong and potent… but what do you know about sake? We went to one-time only sake school with Heather Lee from Young Won Trading, Inc. who taught us a thing or two while tipsy, which the best way to learn. First, what is sake? Sake (pronounced Saw-Kay not Saw-Key) is brewed from rice. It’s not rice wine, or rice beer. Sake…
