Amy Schumer Takes the Cake at the Oddball Comedy and Curiosity Festival
By Jill Beckel
There was something for everyone at the Funny or Die’s Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival at the Susquehanna Bank Center in Camden this past Sunday, September 13th. The event began at 5:15pm with a few comics on the outdoor festival stage while guests played games and enjoyed some food and drinks. It was a perfect, clear night for some outdoor fun.
Then at 7:00pm, everyone made their way to the main stage. The line-up included several well-known comedians:
- Big Jay Oakerson
- Nikki Glaser
- Jay Pharoah
- Michael Che
- Anthony Jeselnik
- Bridget Everett
- Nick Kroll
- Dave Attell
- John Mulaney
- Amy Schumer
- Aziz Ansari
The host, Big Jay Oakerson, had an awesome stage presence and kept things moving all night. Some highlights of the show included Jay Pharoah’s (from SNL) awesome Kevin Hart impression and Nick Kroll’s pooping his pants story recap. Bridget Everett’s lively song and dance routine shocked guests when she flashed her breast and carried a teenage boy she chose from the audience onstage on her back for a lap dance.
Everyone seemed most excited for the show’s biggest stars – Amy Schumer and Aziz Ansari. The crowd went wild for Amy’s jokes about writing and acting in her new movie, Trainwreck, her recap of meeting Hilary Clinton while ice skating on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, and how she really feels about women’s magazines. The headliner of the night, Aziz, opened his act by sharing that he was surprised by “how many white people” filled the audience. He had everyone bent over in laughter with his jokes about dating in the early months verses two years when little things begin to annoy you, his devout Muslim parents, living in the U.S. as a minority and he even explored a deeper topic in a hilarious way – human sexuality. The Oddball Comedy Festival was a treat for all and hopefully will become an annual event.
