At the Horse Races – Preakness at the Piazza for MS
Although the sky threatened to rain, nothing was going to stop this year’s Preakness at the Piazza – a fundraiser to find a cure for Multiple Sclerosis. Saturday, May 16th marked the date of the city’s largest spring charity event. Attendees strutted their stuff – with ladies wearing flamboyant and fun hats and gentlemen sporting smart and sassy bow ties.
Although the The Piazza at Schmidt’s in Northern Liberties is a distance from the 140th Preakness Stakes the energy was just as high. MS is a unpredictable disease that affects over 2.3 million people worldwide. Guests were there to show their support and help fight the devastating illness.
Starting in the afternoon well into the evening, everyone mingled, sipped custom cocktails, and snacked on delicious appetizers before, during, and after the race. It was a sea of happy people wearing bright colors of their fanciest wear for an additional purpose. Everyone there were part of an ongoing fashion show where the Best Dressed was announced after race.
The temperature or possible threat of showers did not put a damper on this gathering of good times. This year’s Preakness at the Piazza saw its largest attendance and the most money raised than in the previous years!
With such a great turnout, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society received even more strength to fight such a debilitating disease until the battle is no longer necessary.
