Elvis Presley’s Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee Shows the King’s Impressive Wealth

Photos, story by Cassie Hepler

You’ve heard the king of rock and roll countless times. Now get a glimpse inside the place that Elvis Presley called home: Graceland.

I’ve always loved Elvis and his music. He was devilishly handsome until he got overly chubby (insert sandwich joke here). He was a rebel in a time of conformity and decadence. He gyrated his hips and made women go crazy (and probably some closeted gays too at the time). But a lot of the country at the time wasn’t ready for him or where his music originated from: African Americans. So the music scene needed a poster boy of sorts to allow other types of music to bleed into the mainstream (equivalent to modern day Justin Bieber injecting Spanish style “Despacito” into the USA mainstream today).

Enter Elvis Presley, who was born a twin but his brother Jesse Garon Presley died at birth, and that haunted him his whole life and left him feeling forever lonely. Imagine having unlimited wealth and the ability to buy all the modern day adult “toys” your heart ever desired in your 20’s. That’s what happened to the king but only proves money can’t buy happiness. See his mansion, private gardens, aircraft, luxury car collection and more below. For an unforgettable experience, go visit Graceland yourself but spring for the VIP tour so you aren’t treated like cattle. And if you’re a huge fan, stay at the Guest House in Graceland for the whole Elvis Presley experience.

The mansion is a 13.8-acre estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Lisa Marie Presley, Elvis’s daughter, is currently the owner although no one actually lives on the property. It is located on the famous Elvis Presley Boulevard about 9 miles from downtown. Opened to the public as a museum on June 7, 1982, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places on November 7, 1991, and declared a National Historic Landmark on March 27, 2006. Graceland is the second most-visited house in the U.S. after the White House, creeping toward almost one million visitors a year.
