Soothe delivers a licensed, vetted, certified massage therapist to your home, office or hotel room, with as little as 60 minutes advance notice. Services include Swedish, Deep Tissue, Sports and Couples massage, in treatment lengths of 60-90-120 minutes for a fixed fee that includes gratuity and taxes (what an European concept! We love it!) It’s consistently received 5-star reviews, so naturally we had to check it out!

This is what our living room usually looks like.

Complete with curious Ragdoll cat named Carmella, we decided the living room had the most space for the massage to comfortably happen. What we didn’t expect was the cat to be distracting (pet me, human, and meowing for no reason) and having the heat too low (don’t do what we did!) Remove any sort of distractions, trust us.

John was our massage therapist’s name and he arrived ready with his gear. We’re not gonna lie, it was slightly awkward to welcome a male stranger into the living room and get ready for a massage however he was professional and we learned he also worked at a massage studio in Media. As it turned out, John was very friendly and knowledgeable about how to help an aching back with tips and tricks to try at home.

The massage therapist sets up the massage table complete with linen sheets that smell like fresh dryer sheets (this is one of our favorite smells so that was immediate happiness right there!)

He also brings his own relaxation music which took us straight to the beach. We dimmed the lights to add more ambiance and set the mood and got ready for the fastest 90 minutes or our life. Seriously, we didn’t believe that time had passed so soon!
We ordered the deep tissue massage which helps alleviate back pain through pressure points and were breathing through the pain, knowing that the payoff would be ideal the next day. We learned that Soothe’s massage therapists can travel to any area within Philadelphia (and apparently nearby New Jersey too).
“Our massage therapists deliver spa-quality treatments – often within one hour’s notice,“ says Soothe Founder and tech entrepreneur Merlin Kauffman. “Plus, there’s no parking or traffic to deal with, and when it’s over, you’re just steps away from a hot bath or your bed.”
That was actually our favorite part. We opted for a hot, sea salt bath to seal the massage in and then crawled into bed very relaxed and happy, not too groggy or sore at all surprisingly.
“It’s an affordable luxury everyone deserves to have,” says Kauffman. “People love the high-quality service and easy booking, which allows for both same-day and future appointments, plus extended operating hours. And it’s hassle-free because there’s no need to tip afterwards. Our customer reviews and ratings are off the charts.”
The second favorite part was that the tip is included in the price, a mentality we wish more of America would adopt. No awkward passing of money, no agonizing if you did the right math, tipped enough, too much, etc. And in addition to offering massage for individuals and couples, Soothe offers chair massage services for corporate and special events, where a team of therapists can be present on site for a specific number of hours to service a group of individuals.
Kauffman started Soothe after becoming disenchanted with the limited operating hours of traditional day spas and advance-notice booking requirements. We have to agree, which is why we also frequent the Chinese Tai Chi Center in Manayunk with its walk-in no frills appointments.

Ninety minutes never went so fast and John is quick to pack up and allow the relaxation to continue.

Into the bag the table goes, bolster and duffel bag and John leaves us calm, serene and relaxed. And with hours until midnight, it’s a no-brainer.

We had to get Soothed again, after all we needed to try a lady masseuse this time. Meet Susan, a licensed massage therapist for 25 years. She, like John, lugged a huge massage table into the living room and opted for placing it on an angle and moving the stone coffee table against the wall. Wearing your massage oil in a neck holster must be the in thing because both donned a massage oil snuggie around their necks. Both were unscented and greasy, so if you have a preference please BYO! Instead of a bolster, Susan had a pillow to elevate legs and her sheets were silkier. Camella the curious cat was calmer this time, even sitting on the couch, watching and purring. We’re guessing because Susan used lighter strokes and was more relaxing than deep tissue trigger pressure point massaging. We’re pretty sure they have someone for every pain, just choose your style and make a note on the website or app when ordering.
Got pain? Get Soothe!
