Get Some Sweet Bay Views and Tasty Food, Brews at Tuckers Tavern in Long Beach Island, N.J.

Story, photos by Cassie Hepler

Beginning with a spirited restoration inspired by the best American taverns and English pubs, Tuckers Tavern is a fantastic gastropub located near the LBI Fantasy Island Amusement Park with bay views and its own parking lot. The menus feature creative beer-centric food and coastal beach favorites with an impressive happy hour: Sunday to Friday from 3 to 6 p.m. at the bar with food specials and $3 select drafts, PBR and wine, $4 well drinks and $5 select craft drafts. And let’s not forget about the freshly shucked oysters and oyster shooters.

As any good tavern knows, live entertainment in the bar is key! Featuring local musicians at 7 p.m. nightly in season and live jazz brunch starting at 10:30 a.m. Saturdays and Sundays only, it’s a can’t miss good time. You can also celebrate your next party at Tuckers Tavern with private and semi-private spaces for 25 up to 110 guests. The Oyster Bar can accommodate cocktail parties for up to 60 or seating for 32 with a full bar, or combine as pre-function space for the nautically inspired
Tavern Room. The expansive Tavern Dining room offers available seating for up to 110 guests or more intimate
groups may dine under the hanging lights and vintage old glory. We opted for the best views of the bay in the house, the fully covered Outside Deck with seating for 45 or cocktail parties up to 60 guests with a built in bar.

East coast oysters are huge here at Tuckers Tavern, a dozen larger than normal oysters for $22 is a steal. We ended up with 13 which means one more for me!

Always a sucker for a crab cake sandwich, this was a little too fried for my tastes but delicious on the inside with some meaty fries and fresh coleslaw at Tuckers Tavern.
