Oh, Ship! Get Boozing, Bites on Board a Shiny New Deck on the Moshulu at Penn’s Landing

Photos, story by Cassie Hepler

Get ready to see the nicest and biggest deck in Philly!

The Deck at the Moshulu really stepped it up 10 notches. Philadelphia’s Moshulu is the only tall ship in the world with a landmark restaurant. Located on the Delaware River waterfront at Penn’s Landing, The Deck at the Moshulu offers amazing views of the river, the city skyline and the Ben Franklin Bridge.

Food, fun and fitness will abound this season as The Deck offers an array of fitness classes to engage, enlighten and inspire with weekly fitness sessions from yoga, to CrossFit to boot camp. The full workout class schedule along with special events and the live music calendar can be found at www.thedeckphilly.com. A must-go is yoga on Sundays with Stacia Nero (from Full & Happy: The Yogi’s Table) from 10:30- 11:30 a.m. followed by brunch as well as DJs Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and special events and late night parties throughout the summer from May to September, maybe later if the weather allows.

“The Deck is the perfect place to go to get away without leaving the City,” said General Manager Jake Wade. “It is approachable casual dining in a fun atmosphere and just a great place to spend a summer night with friends and great drinks. The entertainment schedule at The Deck is filled with events from workout sessions to cigar events, specialty themed parties and fashion events. We have created a location that offers something for everyone,” he added.

Executive Chef Anthony Bonett has created a medley of tasty items including hand-rolled sushi, killer tuna poke, 10 oz. Prime Burger and Ribeye French Dip. The menu celebrates dishes that are timeless American classics, offering top quality seafood, prime steaks, hand-rolled sushi and burgers of course. House made desserts and an extensive wine and crafted cocktail list complete the dining experience.

Welcome aboard rose bubbles and wine is always a good sign!
Gotta enjoy those water and bubbles views!

A step and repeat with fun signs, video and GIF options was a hit of the night.
Lounge seats are also an option on the top of the deck.
All the oysters were fresh with inventive toppings like cucumber for a tangy taste.

New automated retractable tent structures provide an open tented feeling while also protecting guests from the weather. Teak bars with marble bar tops offer a relaxed setting and even TVs. The high top tables around the bars on the Bow Deck and Mid Deck will serve beer, wine and spirits as well as The Deck’s menu of specialty cocktails.

The Deck is taking Big Gulps to new heights with these ridiculous refillable booze… or coffee cups depending on your poison.
If you prefer your cocktail frozen and on a stick, cool off with alcohol infused ice pops in flavors such as sparkling white wine, Cointreau with a mango and raspberry swirl ice pop or sparkling rose, St. Germaine with a pineapple and passion fruit ice pop.

The Deck’s signature desserts are ridiculously awesome and created by in house Pastry Chef Sandy Valentine. The Tasty Shake – a Philadelphia-centric shake that includes; Bassetts Ice Cream, Goldenberg’s Peanut Chews, Tastykake Kandy Kakes, soft pretzels, whipped cream and chocolate sauce. Or, for those that think pink, there is the Wild Thang strawberry shake that includes strawberry ice cream, vanilla orange cake, strawberry Kit Kats, pink caramel angle hair cake and vanilla whipped cream.
