On the Riviera: Seafood Dinner with James Beard Winner Chef Greg Vernick at Osteria

Photos, story by Tyra Gardner

James Beard Award winner Chef Greg Vernick and Chef Jeff Michaud took over the kitchen at Osteria located at 640 N. Broad Street in Philadelphia and prepared seafood inspired by French and Italian cuisine. The amazing evening is part of a growing and glowing private chef series hosted by URBN Food & Beverage.

Osteria has been open since 2007 and is one of the country’s most critically acclaimed Italian restaurants. Osteria customers at this event shared how the food here is “one of a kind and keeps them coming back for more”.

Prior to the meals, Chef Greg and Chef Jeff greeted all of the attendees to discuss how this event evolved and what inspired the collaboration in addition to the meals that would be prepared.

The five course meal began with stuzzichini (appetizers), which included:

Squid Ink Foccacia di Recco.
Antipasti-Grilled Octopus Niçoise and Hamachi Carpaccio.
A Cannoli with a new flair on this popular dessert, now as an appetizer.
A beautiful presentation of delicious vegetable cruditè, definitely a must have.
Lobster Roe Gnocchi, some of the best in Philly by far!

Second courses were fish based because that obviously wasn’t enough food above (insert sarcasm here)…

Cedar roasted salmon.
Oven roasted turbot.

A large selection of Italain dolci (or desserts) was also in store for us.

Torta mimosa, one of the best desserts I have ever tasted. I highly recommend this!
Tarte au Citron, a flavorful dessert that compliments any dinner.
It was an amazing evening with all of these delicious entrees and participants had the option to pair wine with these succulent menu options ($45). We highly recommend signing up the next set of dinners or take a cooking class!
