Philadelphia Film Society Oscar Awards Night Party: A Night to Remember at Prince Theatre

Photo, story by Brittany Harlow

On Oscar night, Sunday, February 28th, The Philadelphia Film Society hosted an Awards Night Party and Screening at the Prince Theatre. The glamorous event was lavish in golden Oscar inspired décor, and the guests arrived dressed to the nines. The black tie optional event featured a red carpet, mobile photographers (amateurs like myself included) and a professional photo station. In attendance were a variety of Philadelphia’s best, and definitely some of its best dressed too. From classic 30’s Hollywood-inspired looks to more modern day red carpet looks, the event was dotted with well-dressed guests and I was blown away by their looks for the evening.

Upon entering the event, guests were greeted with their own mini bottle of champagne. We were encouraged to walk the “red carpet”, snack on the deliciously catered food, enjoy the open bar and try out the especially popular malted chocolate cheesecake-flavored Shake Shack ice cream.  There was even a dress up station with props related to some of nominated movies, like a spacesuit head inspired by The Martian, and a bear suit inspired by The Revenant.

Eventually the mingling and red carpet socialization came to an end and the award show commenced. All in all, the event was a smashing success; the theatre had ample and comfortable seating, Leo finally won his award, and guests left in high spirits from a night best described as dreamy. It was definitely a night to remember.

These fashionistas masterfully demonstrate the old Hollywood style with a modern twist. The fashionista on the left exemplified the style with her oversized green fur jacket, delicately tied strappy heels, and oversized embellishments while the other portrayed the style with her very feminine, long skirt and elegant pinned back hairdo.

These two guests also emulated the vintage feel of the evening, in a significantly more lavish, dramatic fashion. The large glimmering jewel embellishments, long slim fit dresses, draped furs and the flashy headpiece scream classic old Hollywood glamour.

However popular the vintage look was throughout the evening, some did chose to appeal to modern fashion appetites. The floral, floor-length dress paired alongside the sleek dark red jacket and untied dress shirt, created a stylish appeal that immediately caught my eye and I just had to snap a photo.

This smartly dressed couple also caught my eye; the man’s structured dark gray suit complemented the elegance of his date’s golden outfit perfectly.

All in all though my favorite look of the evening would have to be this one. This sweet ensemble was almost as sweet as the guest who put this look together. She seems to have perfectly balanced her sparkly silver jewels and oversized red floral top with the flare of her solid black a-line skirt. Her petite purse matched perfectly with her top, and her red flower embellished kitten heels pulled the whole look together.

Talk about classic Hollywood glam! What says vintage Hollywood better than a luxe fur shawl and floor length gown?

This glimmering gown exemplifies the rich, Hollywood feeling of the event.

Guests couldn’t get enough of the ever popular malted chocolate cheesecake flavored Shake Shack ice cream.

Almost everywhere I turned, I was practically guaranteed to spot a fur shawl or coat- so glam!

Glittering decorations made it truly feel like we were in Hollywood for the night.

An interesting element of the decorations for the event.
