As a child of immigrants hailing from Ecuador, Garces’ created a foundation that provides health and education services to the underserved immigrant population under his employment. All of Chef Jose Garces’ famed restaurants and other local dining venues convened to raise money towards the continuous of the prestigious program. Gone Country: Cruising to Chef Jose Garces’ Luna Farm for Summer BBQ
by Cassie Hepler Yes, we know… You hate driving long distances out of the city into the country. So we did it for you! After about an hour of driving, we parked at Palisades Middle School (4710 Durham Rd, Kintnersville, PA 18930) that provided yellow school bus shuttles (not the short bus) to Luna Farm as parking at the farm would have been packed. Upon arrival, port-a-potties awaited those who took the hour-long drive from the city and 20 minute bus ride. And although no one actually likes using them, they were some of the cleanest around! Story, photos by Cassie Hepler Since meeting chef Jose Garces at his performance theater restaurant opening last year at Volvér, I could tell he was a genuine, caring soul who shares an equal passion of culinary skills and giving back to the world. Industry friends and chef friends reaffirmed this opinion with always and only good things to say about him. Shortly thereafter, I learned more about the Garces Foundation and eventually arrived at the gala to shake his hand again.
