Lehigh County Humane Society Holds First Annual Garden Party at Bell Gate Farm
Keynote speaker Eve Warsinski poses with husband, daughters and Koda. Story, photos by Sharon Kozden “Our animals connect us to the sacred. What are pets, really, other than an attempt to have a little bit of a God in the house?” – Russell Brand Autumn weather in Pennsylvania felt more like spring or summer than fall. Not cool, literally. Projected temps were near 80 degrees some days. The expected crisp chill? It would be here soon enough. Despite seasonal signs of brilliant-hued mums, cider fests, all things pumpkin spice and Halloween decorations, I continue wearing open-toed sandals and tee-shirts. Consequently, my headspace can’t seem to reconcile this unseasonably warm weather…

Philadelphia’s Nightmare Before Tinsel Halloween Pop-up Complements Day of the Dead
Nightmare Before Tinsel follows strict adherence to face-mask protocol. Meet the new abnormal normal. “Terror is a passion which always produces delight when it does not press too close.” —Edmund Burke Story, photos by Sharon Kozden “How you pull up, Baby? How you pull up?” I pull up like I am all about the total experience. No summertime shore trip happens unless I watch Jaws first. The night before touring a nuclear facility, I popped The China Syndrome into my DVD player. A medical operation on my schedule guarantees a viewing of the suspenseful Coma the evening before I’m anesthetized. I intentionally scare myself. Apparently, I’m in good company, particularly…

Grim Philly Keeping Philadelphia Creepy All Year Long
So what is the difference between Grim Philly pub crawls and regular, plain old Philadelphia walking tours? Anthony Bourdain fell in love with the educational but gritty adults only tours with talks of serial killers, vampires, sex, aphrodisiacs, ghost hunting, grave robbing, gangsters, 1920’s speakeasies, pirates, the Jersey Devil and other darker subjects for “The Layover” on Travel Chanel. Themed pub crawls such as “Bootleggers Ball Prohibition Pub Crawl,” and “Grim Philly’s: Nightmare Before Christmas” pub crawl are a little more social than the other tours and run considerably longer to allow time for both information, as well as socialization. While you will generally find regular walking tours to be overflowing with non-stop information, pub crawls are designed to include information over a…

Get Your Geek On! One Weekend Left to Show Your True Colors at the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire
Photos, story by Cassie Hepler The 35th annual season of the Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire at Mount Hope Winery kicked off all the way back when it was hot and humid (August 1, 2015) and continues every Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to roughly 8 p.m. until Oct. 25. We say roughly because we were still meandering around until 9 p.m. and were the last car in the free, grassy knoll lot – a sign of true geekdom. Each weekend showcases a unique theme that offers a different experience every time. We chose to attend the Halloween themed weekends toward the middle of October for maximum nerd-watching enjoyment. Themed entertainment, spontaneous music…
