It’s called Fast-Casual and the folks at Grub Burger Bar are behind the movement. There, they believe in Good people, Real food, a Unique vibe, and Big flavors (G.R.U.B.). For an afternoon, I joined the resistance to see what was cookin’. Market Partner Kevin Cross gave me a tour of the restaurant and let me sample some of their most popular fare, which features much more than just burgers and fries. He introduced me to Managing Partner Tom Stevens and some of the engaging staff who define the Good people…

Dinosaur Bones and Big Eats at the Philadelphia Restaurant Festival
Story, photos by Elizabeth Coffey As one walks around the Academy of Natural Sciences, the scent of delicious food in the air, it’s difficult not to do one’s best Tyrannosaurus Rex impression. I, the casual omnivore on the prowl, walked into 2016’s Philadelphia Restaurant Festival with anxious anticipation, looking forward to all of the delights that would dance upon my tongue that evening. In front of the bones of one the late Cretaceous period’s biggest meat eaters was Modelo serving up some of its best brews; a dark beer, a light beer, and a beer infused with tomato. Red Owl Tavern: One of the Best Ribeye Steaks in Philly
Story, photos by Cassie Hepler I’ve eaten at Red Owl Tavern a handful of times now and have always loved every perfectly-prepared dish and impressive, multi-talented booze list. However, this time I was really blown away by the sheer meaty perfection of the rib-eye steak. Suggested to be cooked medium, I happily obliged as she described how it is drizzled with herbal butter (more fat, more calories… yes, please!). Each bite was succulent, satisfying and better than the last. I loved it so much, I took half home to revel in another day of its heavenly flesh (and tasted just as delightful the next day!) But of course, no steak…
