Just weeks away from the start of Training Camp, the Philadelphia Flyers unveiled a newly-created 50th anniversary uniform based around a new third jersey that features the club’s trademark orange and black, complemented by the addition of gold at Philly From the Top. (Check out that Explore Philly story from One Liberty Observation Deck).

The club opted to integrate gold into the uniform, as well as in the Flyers campaign this season, as a nod to 50 years – what is often referred to as the ‘golden anniversary.’  Gold also serves as a symbol for the high standard and great achievements of the Flyers organization in its first 50 years.

“We carry a lot of pride in these 50 years,” said Flyers President Paul Holmgren. “This season we’ll look back and honor those triumphant moments in time during special heritage games, but make no mistake – our eyes are set on this current team on the rise.”

“It will be an incredible honor to be able to wear this anniversary jersey in front of our fans this season,” said Flyers Captain Claude Giroux. “It is a great tribute to this team’s first 50 years. I know the team will play with pride wearing this on home ice.”

Gold accents featured in the anniversary jersey include gold numbers on the back and sleeves, a three-color name plate, a gold-outlined crest on the front, and gold captain ‘C’ and alternate captain’s ‘A’ patches, as well as additional gold accents on the pants and gloves. The jersey also features “Est. 1967” on the inside neckline, as well as newly-designed socks.

The team will also wear a new, commemorative anniversary logo patch on their right shoulder in honor of their golden anniversary. The mark incorporates the familiar keystone icon used by the Flyers in recent years and will be featured on all game jerseys during the 2016-17 season.

Flyers senior management reviewed dozens of jersey prototypes and over 100 logo sketches in preparation for the upcoming anniversary, finally settling on the designs unveiled today. The jersey and anniversary patch were approved and finalized in December 2015, when management received the blessing of Ed Snider – who approved both upon first sight.

Additionally, in honor of Snider, player helmets will feature an Ed Snider “A Flyer Forever” tribute including the Chairman’s signature.

The specially-designed Reebok jersey will be worn 12 times at home during the 16-17 season: October 20 vs. the Anaheim Ducks (Home Opener), November 2 vs. the Detroit Red Wings, November 19 vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning, November 25 vs. the New York Rangers, December 3 vs. the Chicago Blackhawks, December 10 vs. the Dallas Stars, December 21 vs. the Washington Capitals, January 7 vs. the Tampa Bay Lightning, January 21 vs. the New Jersey Devils, February 2 vs. the Montreal Canadiens, February 4 vs. the Los Angeles Kings, and February 11 vs. the San Jose Sharks. *Schedule subject to change.

The jersey is also a major benefit for this year’s season ticket members – each will receive the commemorative jersey (one per account), beginning in September. 50th Anniversary Season Ticket Memberships are available now and can be reserved by visiting PhiladelphiaFlyers.com or calling 215-218-PUCK.

Charter season ticket members received their anniversary jerseys today in a special meet and greet with Paul Holmgren and Claude Giroux at One Liberty Observation Deck, a setting offering panoramic views of the city from the 57th floor of One Liberty Place – including a direct sight line down Broad St. to the Flyers home arena, the Wells Fargo Center. Visitors are invited to celebrate the Flyers throughout Labor Day Weekend at the Observation Deck with special discounts and photo opportunities.

The 50th anniversary jersey will be available for purchase exclusively at the FanZone Powered by Reebok store at the Wells Fargo Center beginning Tuesday, September 6 and running through Saturday, September 10, with special store hours from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. (September 6-8) and 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (September 9-10). Today’s 50th anniversary jersey announcement is presented by AAA Mid-Atlantic.
