Chris Tucker’s World Tour came to Philadelphia initially for one show in February at SugarHouse Casino but when the show sold out, Chris added another show to appease humor hungry fans. Chris had been on tour for so long that Philadelphia was missing him and could not wait to see what he would bring. It had to have been at a minimum 15 years since his last tour. Chris Tucker, in my opinion, brought SugarHouse down.
Chris Tucker is originally from Atlanta, GA and was featured on HBO’s Def Comedy Jam during the 1990’s where he was a fan favorite with his impressions and his amazing story telling skills, which makes you feel like you’re there. Chris Tucker’s comedic career took a positive turn to the film industry starting along Ice Cube in the cult hit movie Friday to Rush Hour 1-3 with Jackie Chan, Money Talks with Charlie Sheen, Silver Linings Playbook with Philadelphia’s own beloved Bradley Cooper. In 2015, Tucker landed his own standup special on Netflix as well.
It has been a few years since Tucker has been on tour and has come to Philadelphia on this extra special week (Philadelphia Eagles Winning Super Bowl 52) This weekend performances added to the happiness this city has been experiencing. Tucker gave a stellar performance reminding the audience, “I’m over 40 now so the things I used to do in my standup is not like when I was in my 20’s” as he danced his way onto the stage and became tired and needed a seat, which made the audience laugh hysterically. I totally felt his exhaustion.
Chris Tucker tackled many of today’s issues such as dating, sports and shared personal stories of his friendship with Michael Jackson which provided a comedic spin that amused the attendees. Chris joked about how because of so many lawsuits and people making accusations on several celebrities that now he watches everything including posing for pictures and not wanting anyone to have any type of problems with him which the audience agreed and laughed out loud with him. Tucker is definitely a must see when he comes to a city near you.
The host venue for this amazing comedic performance was provided by Sugarhouse Casino Events Center located on the beautiful Delaware River overlooking to Benjamin Franklin Bridge. Make sure to eat some delicious steak, lobster and sip on champagne at Hugo’s Steak House or go low-key and enjoy those river views with beer and burgers at Fishtown Hops!
