Recharge in Nature at Arizona’s Artists Home in Cottonwood
Story, photos by Cassie Hepler
The Arizona artist’s home in Cottonwood, Arizona is a nature lovers dream! Tucked back on cross streets with a walking path across the street, it beckons you to come explore the steam that leads into the Verde River where you can grab one of the many floats or kayaks from the garage and enjoy a day of peaceful tranquility among the hummingbirds. This 3 bedroom, 2 bath home is thoughtfully designed by Kirsten Snyder of Ocotillo Nature Homes with retro and brand boutique touches throughout. The name Ocotillo means “little torch” in Spanish and is a plant that produces clusters of bright red flowers at their stem tips. Some of the most beautiful spots in the world can be found just underneath an ocotillo, all it takes is a little digging. Put this gem on your bucket list when you need an escape from the city – and the heat!
It is literally a two minute walk to the Verde River water inlet which is glorious to go get lost in the woods if you like. We were there on an overcast, rainy stint with cicadas making noise as far as your ears can hear. There’s a basketball hoop out front to burn off some steam and Pac-Man inside to keep the introverts happy too as well as board games, record player, fishing poles and super strong (and huge) air conditioning unit to keep everyone cool and happy. New to the house is a remodeled back yard with new grill and bocce ball. Everything you need like downtown Cottonwood is within about a 10 minute drive, 20 to Jerome and about 30 to Sedona. Adjacent to the Nature Preserve, it’s the best bet you’re gonna get other than camping!
If playing in the river is too crunchy for you, there is a community pool nearby open from May to October (weather permitting), Tuesday through Sunday. It’s a perfect way to spend a day however note that no lifeguard is on duty and parental permission is required for children 13 and over. Rates for pool access are $8 per day for adults and $4 for children under 10 as of 2023.
Arizona Artists Home provides a washer, dryer and cleaning supplies. Paper products are restocked as well. The entire home is meant to be enjoyed, with an app called August Locks providing access. Once you are inside the home, there is a key fob with garage access for easier access. If you love nature and art, this is your home away from home in Cottonwood, Arizona!
