Take a Hike to Arathusa Falls & Explore Bethlehem and Littleton, New Hampshire

    October 14, 2024 /

Story, photos and video by Cassie Hepler Hike up Arethusa Falls with me, the tallest waterfall in New Hampshire at 140 feet! We drove by randomly on the way to lunch from the Owl Roost at Bretton Wood Vacations and since I am obsessed with waterfalls, it caught my eye. Briefly we checked out the sign about 1.5 miles… almost all uphill and rated as moderate (it’s not, more like difficult to non-hikers) but boy…

Keeping Your Loved Ones Close After Death

    April 12, 2023 /

The idea of losing someone you love dearly is never nice, but unfortunately, it is something that everyone will go through – and more than once for most of us. For some, it is the loss of siblings and parents; for others, it is grandparents, best friends or pets.  One of the things that people like to do and often struggle with is how they can celebrate the life of their loved one – and how they can keep them close.  In the early weeks, it can be a difficult thing to think about, as often denial, upset, and worry will be prevalent at the start. Over time, and when…

Fall in Love with Whistler in British Columbia, Canada in Autumn

    August 15, 2019 /

Story by Rachael Hopwood, photos courtesy of Tourism Whistler The Canadian resort of Whistler has a lofty reputation as a world-famous winter travel destination and thanks to warm days and an abundance of outdoor activities, summer proves pretty popular too. But what about fall?  Largely forgotten by many considering a trip north, the months of September through to mid-November are something of a hidden gem. Sitting perfectly between the crowds of summer hikers and hoards of winter skiers, pleasant temperatures and stunning scenery are just two reasons to consider an autumnal visit. Whistler is a resort community in the province of British Columbia, Canada, about 78 miles north of Vancouver…

Pretty in Pink at Philadelphia’s Morris Arboretum’s Cherry Blossom Festival

    June 7, 2018 /

“To see the cherry hung with snow.” — Alfred E. Housman No explication necessary. Poet Housman here nailed it with the “hung with snow” phrase. Loveliest of trees, the cherry now Is hung with bloom along the bough, And stands about the woodland ride Wearing white for Eastertide.  – Alfred E. Housman Story, photos by Sharon Kozden Slowly but surely, “I’ve been turning Japanese, turning Japanese, I really think so.” This transmogrification began at least a decade ago, when one day I awoke, surveyed my surroundings and determined that the sheer volume of what my mother calls dust-catchers (read: tchotchkes) had to be jettisoned–stat. I set to divesting myself of…
