Museum’s Art Splash Opens in Unison with Creative Africa Exhibit
Photos, story by Lou Perri Returning for its fourth year, Art Splash, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s popular summer family program, opened on July 1 in conjunction with Creative Africa, a season of five exhibitions of African art, both historic and contemporary, currently on view in the Perelman Building. Spanning 10 weeks, Art Splash offers a dynamic set of programs focused on engaging families, including gallery explorations, hands-on workshops, guided tours, performances and family festivals. The event was held on a cool spring night Tuesday, May 3rd at Stratus Lounge. Everyone was dressed in their most fashionable attire and ready to mix and mingle. Photos, story by Lou Perri Twenty-two-year-old Brenna Joanne Weick, of Mantua, N.J., won the title of Miss New Jersey 2016 Saturday night at the Ocean City Music Pier. It’s the fourth year Brenna has competed in the pageant, and held the local title as Miss Seashore Line. She advances to the Miss America Pageant held in Atlantic City in September. Philadelphia Museum of Art Offers Festive Holiday Programs, Chef Classes, Choral Groups and More
Story, photos by Lou Perri In the weeks ahead, the Philadelphia Museum of Art programs will range from daily art-making workshops, live cooking demonstrations and caroling to trolley tours of the historic houses of Fairmount Park including live entertainment by colorful characters from Charles Dickens’s celebrated “A Christmas Carol”. A Fairmount Christmas Carol, according to Justina Barrett, site manager for historic houses, visitors will encounter Charles Dickens’s Mr. Fezziwig, Mrs. Cratchit, and Scrooge himself at Mount Pleasant, Cedar Grove, and Lemon Hill on Friday, Dec. 18. Is it your childhood home, your current home or maybe a place you visited once that felt like the home you never had? Maybe it’s a mix of a lot of feelings and images. Home is not the same for everyone. The world premiere of Home/S. 9th St. took place at FringeArts right near Penn’s Landing with shows on Nov. 19th, 20th and 21st.
