There’s one thing that most Atlantic City casinos don’t have that Tropicana does. The beach.
With views like that, who cares if it’s approaching negative digits and is winter? It’s a virtual adult playground inside with everything you need in one space. Even our diehard NYC dwelling friend was quite impressed.
“I always thought this was a run down casino,” she said, pleasantly surprised. “But this is even better than the Borgata. I feel like the Borgata is trying too hard.”
Tropicana Atlantic City is a 24-hour gaming destination located on the beach and boardwalk in Atlantic City. Featuring 2,046 newly renovated rooms and suites and home of The Quarter, a 200,000 square foot entertainment complex, complete with 24 restaurants, 25 shops, 18 bars and lounges, 2 pools, an IMAX Theatre, and a spa, Tropicana is consistently rated as a “Must-See Attraction” in Atlantic City. More than $90 million in recent property renovations have introduced new guest accommodations in the North and Havana Towers, the spectacular Multimedia Light and Sound Show, the addition of AtlantiCare LifeCenter Fitness and a new High Limit Slot Area.
We arrived separately – her from NYC and me from Philly – and eventually met up in the room on the sixth floor in The Havana Tower.

The beds were as comfy as they looked and the walls are pretty sound proof.The bathroom in our hotel room at Tropicana AC was all marble which we loved.While we love a good soak in a tub, the shower was roomy and the ledge made a great place to shave your legs. The water did not get scalding hot however which was a bummer but better for your skin.
We talked shop for a while, then heading down to the action of the Quarter and casino floor.

Check the website for more details!Sometimes you need a big cock in your kitchen or living room and Tropicana AC has that for sale.Our beloved Cuba Libre restaurant has a pretty sweet ride outside we couldn’t help but admire at Tropicana AC.
After our walkabout, we headed back upstairs to get ready for dinner. Our preselected for us place, Golden Dynasty, was not open on a Sunday so we had to switch up plans. And since we already dined at both Philly and AC Cuba Libre, we opted for P.F. Chang’s since we were in the Chinese food mood already. Since the hotel lobby desk for the Havana Tower was closed, it took a while to get things transferred over but a very nice manager over the phone made sure we were secured for dinner. And we were so ready by then!
A jar of Gekkeikan warm sake and fresh squeezed ginger root with lemon and sugar can, house made ginger beer were the perfect compliments to the meal.From the street fare menu, lobster and shrimp jicama shell tacos at P.F. Chang’s in Tropicana AC were flash fried with dabs of guacamole. The fresh onion and fresno peppers with the slight grease worked well together here.The highlight of the evening right here at P.F. Chang’s! Tempura fried cauliflower could have easily fooled anyone into thinking they were eating General Tsos chicken.We nicknamed this the ahi poke meatball for obvious reasons at P.F. Chang’s with its wonton crisps, avocado and citrus soy, it made slop it up sense.Dumplings are all the rage right now and these hand rolled shrimp dumplings did not disappoint at P.F. Chang’s, the spices really made the taste pop.For something healthy, we opted for some green beans at P.F. Chang’s with a spicy kick.P.F. Chang’s signature Surf & Turf dish with all my favorites inside only slightly made sense to me. The lobster was fried and lost all its taste in the grease, the filet mignon was on point but potatoes with rice was just too much carbs. If I order it again I will ask for no fried lobster and no potatoes but more greens (peppers or more shitake mushrooms maybe).More impressive was the Oolong Chilean Sea Bass with ginger soy sauce on a thick bed of spinach at P.F. Chang’s with brown rice. It flaked beautifully and had the consistency of sweet butter.For dessert, we shared this ridiculous piece of chocolate cake at P.F. Chang’s. It was chocolate overdose and we loved it!A side of vanilla ice cream never hurt anyone at P.F. Chang’s. We may be sugar junkies.A perfect way to end the meal is some hot fresh brewed tea on a cold winter night, the signature oolong is the best and most authentic.Back up the steps as it is connected to the street on the bottom level, casino on top where the high tops and bar are situated.Look for the huge stone horses in The Quarter at Tropicana AC for P.F. Chang’s.And conveniently placed right next to the elevator to our rooms is a wine and beer shop at Tropicana AC.
We walked off our food wondering around the casino the rest of the night playing games like Kitty Glitter, my NYC’s favorite Wheel of Fortune (“I love to spin,” she said), Orange is the New Black, Austin Powers was the most fun and old school ones like Blackjack. We did get free invite cover cards to party ’til dawn Anthem Lounge but when you’re doing dry January, that’s no fun so we passed.
The rest of the night we caught up in our room sharing high school stories from central Pennsylvania until we drifted off in the wee hours of the morning.
At about 9 a.m. we awoke to a pounding at the door.
“Housekeeping!” said the woman. My friend got out of bed to tell her it was way too early, but we were awake. So we headed down after dropping our keys in the checkout box to brunch at Casa Taco & Tequila Bar which thankfully was open until noon. I had the huge American breakfast and she ordered the Mexican eggs and beans on a tortilla with plenty of coffee. We parted ways shortly thereafter but will always remember our adventure in AC.
