The Golden Nugget International Winefest held over the last weekend in August was a feast “under the stars” just as the press release stated. The event on Friday evening featured Kathie Lee Gifford who boasted about her wine called GIFFT, in partner with a Monterey estate vineyards. The name stands for Gifford’s last name and inspired by her belief that love and friendship are gifts. Four wines that make up the GIFFT label were on display – rose, red blend, pinot grigio and chardonnay.
The two-day celebration of the grape featured wines of more than 65 vintners from around the world. Golden Nugget‘s Scott Tarwater, corporate director of wines and special events, noted that the winefest gives one the opportunity to taste test a variety of wines. Tarwater said that there is a nationwide trend of keen interest in wines outside of California, including wines from different countries and specific regions of a country. An International Winefest offers guests a wealth of wines and styles, he told Explore New Jersey.
The two-night wine tasting extravaganza, where wine lovers and enthusiasts were invited to enjoy wines from around the world, was spent with winery ambassadors and winemakers sampling over 65 of the most prolific wineries’ collections complemented by award-winning cuisine. The Grand Tasting event took place on August 27 where attendees tasted over 100 wines from Italy, Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, Argentina, Chile, Australia, New Zealand, and the US.
