Hudson Valley Gains Hip, Hamptons Style Hotel The Time Nyack in Upstate New York

Story by Cassie Hepler, photos by The Time Nyack

Housed in a historic former factory turned recording studio, The Time Nyack displays hip, modern art and history along with a side of urban energy in the picturesque small town of Nyack, NY in the Hudson Valley. The boutique property is owned and is the vision of development group WYINC, which specializes in developing upscale properties in urban destinations. The hotel is managed by The Dream Hotel Group – with its Dream Hotels, Time Hotels, The Chatwal and Unscripted Hotels brands. And since it’s literally a highway away from NJ, it makes perfect sense for Pennsylvanians or Jersey travelers (or even New Yorkers needing a quick getaway).

We were invited for a stay to test it out and arrived late in the evening and were greeted by Manager Brittany who arranged a special surprise for our birthday guest. Check in was pretty easy and breezy at that time of the day and we picked a rainy beginning of the week to visit but were determined to make the most of it. When we arrived in the room, not one but two bottles of booze – American Bubbles Sparkling Wine and Coastal Estates Chardonnay – were awaiting us! One bottle for any room is customary however so get ready to relax. We had a balcony view almost to the corner of the building (that balcony wraps around, a VIP suite no doubt) which was enjoyable however not much privacy.

The Time Nyack has self parking in the back and a shuttle that goes to the train station and within a 5 mile radius which we didn’t find out about until after we went to the mall to watch Valerian (awesome movie by the way) in the rain.

The Time Nyack’s king bed room which features nightly turn down service with a free bottle of water and two Godiva chocolates. Our room had a balcony however unlike this one that may face the cemetery behind the hotel. The bathroom was marble with a lovely rain shower that took a few minutes to heat up but no shelf to set your soap, shampoo, etc. with a private bathroom.

The property includes 133 guest rooms, seven suites, a pool deck and outdoor lounge, meeting and event space and a 150-seat BV’s Grill, an outpost of Bobby Van’s Steakhouses. A rooftop lounge with views of the Hudson River is said to open later this year and will surely be a draw for guests and Nyackers alike. We meandered to Main Street a few times and found some lovely patisseries and healthy options as well as an almost hippy/bohemian culture.

The Time Nyack restaurant and lounge communal table which right behind it includes a visible wine cellar wall with all the champagne from Moet to Dom, they have it here.
BV’s Grill at The Time Nyack is where we had a private, empty late breakfast pass one morning with the place all to ourselves. Excellent coffee but not included in the pass, we had the included American breakfast (eggs, toast, bacon) while our guest went for an upgrade (anything over $12) with a crab omelet. We hear it’s popping on the weekends and peaceful during the early week.
The Time Nyack’s very masculine and industrial hotel lounge with skulls as part of the rugs was one of our favorite touches.
A private event space which probably opens up into a lounge when the place is packed at The Time Nyack is very Game of Thrones.

Architectural and interior design firm Glen & Co Architecture designed the hotel with whimsical décor and a loft-style aesthetic. High ceilings which we loved and large windows allow the guest rooms and public spaces to fill with natural light, with some rooms (like ours) offering private terraces overlooking the Hudson River. Amenities, including Frette linens and bathrobes; C.O. Bigelow bath and body amenities; Tesla charging stations; and complimentary high-speed Wi-Fi throughout the property – as well as Alexa in your room to ask questions to… or just have fun with.

An arial view of The Time Nyack pool area all set up when it’s not a rainy mess outside.
It’s a good thing they have a heated pool as the hot tub which we were looking forward to with our wine glasses in hand – was cold as ice and not fixed by the time we left sadly. The pool closes early at 8 p.m. which is a tad early for most hotels but if you have a bunch of partiers… enough said!

Make sure to bring ear plugs if you are a light sleeper as it is literally off the highway and those trucks can be loud. The tall curtains will block most light though and those super comfy beds will make sure you zonk out well at The Time Nyack.
A lovely summer view of the Hudson River at The Time Nyack just in time for us to check out!

The day we checked out, they turned the water off at 10 a.m. so no sleeping in for us (checkout is at noon) but obviously they were having some sort of maintenance issues. When we checked out, we did not get a paper copy and went on word that there were no charges, our advice is to get that paper copy to double check! But otherwise a great time at Time Nyack.

If case you really want to do it up, book the Timeless Suite at The Time Nyack.
And enjoy this tub for two – a welcome soak after hiking nearby Woodstock, NY mountains! Those sliding doors are a fantastic use of space and efficiency and seem to be an upstate trend. Yes, please!

In 1999, Time Hotels was born with the opening of its first hotel in the heart of Times Square, New York. As part of the company’s multi-tiered brand development strategy, Dream Hotel Group transformed the brand into an upper-upscale brand that caters to a clientele looking for progressively designed spaces and forward-thinking dining options in centrally located cities. The Time Hotels brand offers travelers an urbane lifestyle product with a refined edge. Sidestepping the raucous nightclub scene, its properties feature a more sophisticated lounge feel. Boutique in its ethos regardless of room count, Time Hotels offers a more evolved perspective on the lifestyle hotel movement.
