Try Mian, Not Your Average Asian SugarHouse Casino Restaurant

Story by Tyra Gardner, photos by Cassie Hepler
Mian at SugarHouse Casino provides quick service Asian cuisine, perfect for a cold winter’s night.
Mian’s Manager Reuben Abasolo provided us with an enlightening history of the restaurants new renovations which consisted of its move of location area within the SugarHouse Casino near the Chinese gaming section of the casino. Mian offers the very best in Asian cuisine to satisfy everyone’s tastebuds. Mian offers customers the option of take out or dining in within its very spacious beautiful Asian motif restaurant.
Reuben provided us with a tour of the restaurant and introduced us to our server of the evening Tai whom was very friendly, energetic, engaging and efficient. We dined on some of the finest Asian cuisine outside of Chinatown at the SugarHouse Casino. The service there was impeccable and timely. The menu items are fairly priced and are made to order.
Reuben and Tai as were all the staff were great with assisting with menu choices from there broad menu, pairing what your taste buds consist of too the item on the menu that would quench your pallet.

Tai, our awesome waiter, even got hugs on our way out he was so amazing!

Thai Tea was a deliciously refreshing drink to start the evening off before ordering Appetizers.

Our appetizers included The Vietnamese Spring Rolls (pork, shrimp, crab, carrots, vermicelli and fish sauce served with a Thai sweet chili sauce) is a portion size for one and provides a nice light start to any meal.

The Salt and Pepper Calamari has a nice amount of seasoning and is cooked to perfection.

Steamed Dumplings is also a nice start to any traditional Asian meal.

What is any meal without a delicious soup to start, Pho Soup was a nice touch for a cold day made with rare eye round steak, bánh phở noodles, bean sprouts, jalapeno, Thai basil, cilantro, fresh lime served in a seasoned beef broth, if your pallet is calling for something refreshing this is a must try soup.

Dinner we were recommended the Chef’s Specials which were the General Tso’s Chicken and Lemongrass Pork Chops which were amazing! Mian is best known for their General Tso’s Chicken Tempura breaded chicken in a savory spicy and slightly sweet sauce served with baby bok choy and steamed white rice. This is one of the best General Tso’s Chicken I have ever tasted.

Lemongrass Pork Chops- Pan fried lemongrass, garlic and ginger marinated pork chops served with Vietnamese dipping sauce and steamed white rice. The marinade used on these pork chops was a nice surprise to the pallet, the chef did a great job with adding twist on pork chops one that is definitely a must try.

Traditional Green Tea was one of my favorite hot drinks at Mian.

Mians’ mochi ice cream for dessert was a all time favorite, surrounded in a soft rice paper this delicious treat totally compliments any traditional asian dinner.

2017 is Year of the Rooster and for Good Luck after dessert we were given orange slices which our server Thai explained to us that they are “good to clean the pallet and good for the digestive system once dinner is complete”.
