Summer’s Best Beauty Trend: Microblading Your Eyebrows

The lady who works the eyebrow magic, Bella Browzz by Shauna!

If there’s one thing I love more than anything, it is streamlining my life to make things easier – and faster. And included in that is my makeup routine. I hate having to slather on copious amounts of makeup to make myself look “presentable” only to have it slide off a few hours later. Or worse, end up on another part of my face like a questionable caterpillar.

The vegan pigment used for the eyebrow “tattoos” at Bella Browzz by Shauna.

Enter microblading! It is kind of like getting a tattoo except it only goes about 3 layers deep instead of 9 like traditional tattoos. It also mimics the natural hairs on your eyebrows and shape too so you don’t look like Mr. Bean rolling out of the beauty salon. Being a fair skinned blonde, I have always had a nice, natural arch in my brow but without using eyebrow pencil, you would never know it. It just looked like I was missing some eyebrows as most women do. (You especially notice this when you get your eyebrows microbladed btw as it is super dark at first until it fades).

There is method to the eyebrow madness at Bella Browzz by Shauna and it involves symmetry so you don’t look like you’re lopsided all the time.

Enter Groupon! The land of the non-committal curious types who want to try things but are not that committed yet. So I reached out to a ton of people in Phoenix, AZ and there are a lot! Most were booked up past July and I was not about to have bald or wandering eyebrows that long. So I started reaching out on my own and ended with with Bella Browzz by Shauna, a punk rock hipster gal in North Scottsdale. I showed up, she numbed me, drew in my eyebrows an outline sketch (don’t be freaked out by this it is just a guide) and then started going to town. The key is returning for part two about a month later and filling in the gaps because much like a tattoo, it’s all about how well your skin takes the pigment.

From Bella Browzz by Shauna’s instagram page (follow her) you can see how much better they look and they really are the framework of the face!

Mine did well and absorbed it like a champ with almost no downtime. I used the Vitamin A & E ointment (shiny brows all over Arizona and now you know why!) Overall, I’m super happy with them and have yet to draw them back on at some point. You do need to have upkeep on them though as they will fade with time (and sunlight) and for an ETA, Shauna said I will just know when its time. Spoken like a true brow whisperer! Ladies, don’t let your face slide off this summer. Up next, faux lashes to combat those raccoon eyes from melting mascara. Stay tuned!

The world’s worst selfie but so you can see I do in fact have eyebrows after session number two at Bella Browzz by Shauna.
