Away Spa at W Scottsdale Whisks Your Stress Away

Story, photos by Cassie Hepler

Not the way you want to wake up on an early Friday morning… to a text from your father saying your grandfather passed away. I was immediately in flight and internal fight mode and to be honest a hot mess on the inside as I couldn’t make it back to the East Coast in time for the funeral. The last thing I wanted to do was face people but I had booked a hosted morning of pampering at Away Spa at W Scottsdale in Scottsdale, Arizona for my blog weeks ago and knew that it would actually help me in the long run. So with some coffee and barely any sleep, I went to W Scottsdale and checked the car with the valet that is free for spa guests.

When you enter, you go inside down the long hallway past the elevators and the doorway is on your left. They were just getting settled in when I arrived very groggy and zombie like.

The hallway looking out towards the doors from the lobby at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale.
First thing you do is take a healthy shot upon your arrival at checkin at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale. I actually took two as I forgot to photograph the first one!
It was just myself and this business traveler at 9 a.m. on Friday morning at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale.
Right beyond the manicure bar was the pedicure station at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale.
And a little further back, the hair salon and fun whicker chairs to play in at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale.
Soon it was time for my massage and I chose deep tissue as I always do with the Go Deep 80 minute massage at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale.
The room where the magic happened at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale. My wonderful massage therapist Jennifer worked out my sciatic nerves just itching to come through and bring me pain. It was hard to focus on relaxing but eventually my mind quieted down a bit.
After the massage, I went back to the spa lounge complete with snacks and infused water at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale. There are separate sections for genders but the lounge is unisex.
Right after the massage, Britan came and fetched me for the facial part of the spa experience at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale.
Probably the strangest and yet most fun part of the facial was this face mask that was painted on like slime but dried like a gelatin mask at Away Spa Scottsdale at W Scottsdale. And don’t worry all you claustrophobics out there, they can skip the full eye coverage if needed. I also enjoyed the hot towel foot socks and those scalp massages were so divine! My esthetician Britan was so funny and our conversation kept me laughing and happily distracted.
My facial was called the Rewind at Away Spa at W Scottsdale.
Somehow that time went way too fast and at this point it was lunchtime and I was starving at Away Spa at W Scottsdale. I couldn’t imbibe as I had to adult immediately afterwards but I could eat my feelings so I ordered the food menu and a hot green tea.
I inhaled those tuna avocado sushi rolls and smoked salmon tostada immediately at Away Spa at W Scottsdale. The charcuterie board was outstanding and fresh fruit is always good for mind and body!
I loved the presentation as well at Away Spa at W Scottsdale. That is part of the experience for sure!
Here I am all shiny and new with my hair covered in delicious smelling oils and feeling greasy but happier and much lighter from when I came in at Away Spa at W Scottsdale.

It was no coincidence that the kind hairdresser who took the above photo and I chatted with recently went through the same experience… and was also unable to go home to his family in Mexico in time for the funeral. Everyone at the spa was so kind and sweet to me and not because I’m a blogger (most didn’t even know until I told them) but because they have an outstanding staff there! Please know that you helped uplift this gals day so when I went home to deal with the death in the family, it was a softer, gentler blow. And the leftover snacks were wonderful too in help filling that sad void! Thank you Away Spa at W Scottsdale for this experience and keep killing it with kindness… that’s always in style.
