Take a Private Beer Tour with Home Brewed Events and Philly Tour Hub

Story, photos by Jordan Price

The folks at Home Brewed Events know their stuff. Self-proclaimed “beer-based education event planners”, they offer homebrewing classes in the home, beer tasting classes, food pairings, and more. But until now, they’ve kept their events mostly… well…. in the home. Just in time for the holiday season, though, they’ve paired with the awfully nice people at Philly Tour Hub to offer a one-of-a-kind experience perfect for the discerning homebrewing bunch, the beer aficionados, the bachelor or bachelorette party, the birthday babes…. really, anyone who’s got an interest in beer and brewing.

We were lucky enough to take part in a preview of their new offering: The Private Beer Tour. Starting at Philly Tour Hub, the group was able to take part in brewing a 5 gallon batch of beer with the dynamic duo themselves, Meredith and Garrett.

Home Brewed Events caters their event to anyone, from the seasoned brewing vet to the total newb, allowing this event to be perfect for any group! AND it got interactive!

You know you want to put your face in it.

Now watch this writer DIP…. Now watch me brew, yay!

One of the best parts about Home Brewed Events is that they provide all the equipment for the brewing experience, allowing you a taste of the process without the cumbersome costs associated with buying your own bottles or brewing accoutrements and having the space to store it all. Since it was a little chilly out, Garrett let us taste some of the warm wort.

Mm…. like hot chocolate…. only beer.

Following the brewing experience (during which there’s tons of time for questions and discussion), the folks from Philly Tour Hub take the reins, and they took the entire crew on a fun beer-themed adventure through Old City, allowing us to explore the Philly beer culture and history first hand. Stop #1 was City Tavern, one of Philly’s most historic spots to imbibe.

Authentic, old-timey harpist included!

We threw back a few brews from Yards as our tour host gave us all sorts of interesting and fun facts about Philly’s history with beer and brewing! We won’t spoil the fun for any of you, but never has edu-tainment been more fun to consume.

Yards’ Alexander Hamilton’s Federalist Ale, a refreshing pale ale!

The tour hits three bars, including Khyber Pass and ending at 2nd Story Brewing, AND includes a beer at each stop! It was an incredible experience and took “a night out in Old City” to a whole new level. Contact Home Brewed Events or Philly Tour Hub for information on pricing and schedules, they’re able to accommodate groups of 8+, and let us be the first to wish you CHEERS!
