Coyote Crossing in Conshohocken: Salted worms and tequila ice cream, oh my!

Story, photos by Cassie Hepler

What better way to start the New Year than with something… well, new? Coyote Crossing in Conshohocken had the same idea with some pretty posh and stellar renovations. As soon as the temperature plummeted and reminded me that yes, it truly is now officially winter, we rushed inside and were greeted by that new smell of high-end construction. Shortly after we walked into the main dining room, there was a lovely, cozy fire which we were seated next to. The smell of the wood smoke and sizzling Mexican food floating through the air was intoxicating – and immediately relaxing. A couple next to us snuggled, sat together and angled their chairs toward the fire while candles flickered nearby. Each course was an experience in itself with my favorites (always trying something new) like mezcal with salted worms and tequila ice cream… read on below! And not pictured, an amazing outdoor space perfect for sipping on some summertime mezcal. With amazing happy hour offerings and ample parking (!), there’s a seat with my name on it when the temps finally climb again.

Coyote Crossing logo is trumped by the Scorpion mezcal high alcoholic condensation on the glass. Orange slices are sprinkled in salted worms which are eaten while sips of mezcal are taken and make it delightfully light. We had the lighter Scorpion Mezcal (reposado Espadin) agave aged in oak barrel smoky citrus and cucumber flavor.

My first mojito of the night was mango, then pineapple and a sip of pomegranate with other tempting options like blood orange.

The small details of the coyote logo on the leather chairs was a nice touch.

There is no shortage of desserts here and this isn't even all of them (not pictured, flan of course).

The cheesecake sopillas with tequila ice cream was a creamy, crunchy delicious mess. And you can actually taste the tequila tang in every bite!

We were given a table right next to the well-attended fire. It felt wonderful in the winter weather and loved the smell too!

One of the renovations includes a more posh setting and the huge, almost 20 foot cactus serves as a nice focal point.

A margarita tower is a great deal for $55 as this group already knew - and offers at least 10-12 glasses of margs!
