I’ve eaten at Red Owl Tavern a handful of times now and have always loved every perfectly-prepared dish and impressive, multi-talented booze list. However, this time I was really blown away by the sheer meaty perfection of the rib-eye steak. Suggested to be cooked medium, I happily obliged as she described how it is drizzled with herbal butter (more fat, more calories… yes, please!). Each bite was succulent, satisfying and better than the last. I loved it so much, I took half home to revel in another day of its heavenly flesh (and tasted just as delightful the next day!) But of course, no steak is served all by its lonesome. And no one should eat a delicious meal all by themselves. I mean, who would you rave to? Yourself? Your cat or dog? So we tried a few other dishes which were just as on point as the rest. It was a winning night for Red Owl Tavern and my belly.
Brewery Ommegang Hennepin is a farmhouse ale, and is considered to be in the domain of the Belgian Saisons. An amazing beer, I look for it every time I’m here.I inhaled the Smoked Trout Dip with Pickled serrano peppers and lavash chips. Always a winning starter at Red Owl.Salads make you think you are eating healthy. Here is the Red Owl Mixed Green Salad Baby tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes, red onion, sherry-oregano vinaigrette.New to the menu the soon-to-be notorious Ribeye Steak with green beans and garlic mashed potatoes.My guest had to order the runner-up, the Seared Skuna Bay Salmon with Cauliflower puree, romanesco couscous with pine nuts and pomegranate seeds, micro cilantro and mint oil.Pommes frites (french fries) were amazing – and I’m quite a fry junkie. I may or may not have eaten half the container.The newspaper nerd in me loved the news print paper covered in french fry grease.There’s always room for dessert (it fits in the cracks my dad says). Peanut butter mousse with homemade peanut butter cups which really did melt in the mouth – without the waxy coating, just pure gooey heaven – and not too sweet.The espresso chocolate torte, pretzel crumbles and coffee ice cream will take the place of your after dinner coffee and fly you to the moon all in one sitting.
