Philly’s First Just Salad Joins Healthy Movement for a Leaner City

Story by Tiffany DuBois, photos by Eric Morales

Fresh, crisp, delicious! Just Salad is not just a salad bar similar to Sweetgreen or any other vegetarian-friendly spot in Philadelphia. It is a fresh, vibrant, eco-friendly salad restaurant that just opened on 1729 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia PA 19103. It is their first location in Pennsylvania. They already have locations in New York City, Chicago, Kansas, Dubai and Hong Kong! Team Leader Michael Oliva is a transplant from the New York City Just Salad restaurant who exudes warmth and a genuine interest in knowing your opinion on the food. And it’s not just Michael that really cares about the customer’s opinion. Everyone from founder and CEO Nick Kenner to Director of Culinary Development Andrea Cuellar to the many devoted employees, they all take healthy eating very seriously.

Nowadays, more and more of us want to know where our food is from, is it organic and how fresh is it. Every ingredient they use arrives fresh daily and from local farmers. You will never see any canned or processed ingredients. And yes, everything is organic and non-GMO. They take freshness very seriously and it shows in how their food tastes.

Just Salad has ten standard salad bowls that can be totally customized to fit whatever you’re in the mood for. Want a crispy Thai chicken salad with beets? You can do that. Prefer going totally vegetarian? They can do that. Didn’t know that the salad dressings are made from scratch with wholesome ingredients that won’t add to calorie overload? Now you know! In addition, there are three different types of toast boxes available, wraps that you can pair with select salads, a build-your-own-salad bowl, smoothies, soups and a toasty and soup combo.

Having a party at home or at the office? Give Just Salad a try because they do catering as well. Included in every order is fresh bread, plenty of utensils, clearly marked salad labels and all dressings are served on the side.

The absolute best thing about Just Salad is how eco-friendly they are. Purchase their reusable bowl for an extra dollar and next time you come in with it, you’ll receive two free essential toppings or one free cheese. Through this program, Just Salad saves over 75,000 lbs of plastic each year. So not only are you eating healthy, but you’re also doing your part in keeping our planet healthy.

Our congratulations and best wishes to Just Salad and their first foray into Pennsylvania. I’m glad they chose Philadelphia for their first location in the state. Give them a try. You’ll be glad too!
