Marking the end of winter each year, the PHS Philadelphia Flower Show reminds the Northeast that there is a such thing as grass, flowers, plants and… Spring! Held at the end of February into the first week of March, this year’s theme was “Celebrate the Movies,” with themed displays, special events and more in celebration of the silver screen. Special events including live entertainment, demonstrations, gardening workshops, tea parties, celebrity guests and more enticed flower lovers (and haters) alike (see below).
So if you’re like us and just want to pretend it’s Spring (complete with burning, running nose allergies), you can also help needy families. Not only that, but they have fabulous themed nights such as the Sunday night LGBT Party (with booze), Wedding Wednesday for all the soon-to-be brides to explore local wedding experts and sample champagne (i.e. get tipsy) and Girls Night Out with shopping, food, wine and demonstrations (i.e. get drunk) with a gift bag (with booze in it…?)
As a matter of fact, that brings us to the first part of the flower show – the PA Wine & Spirits booze station where for only $44.99, Dan Aykroyd was signing crystal skull vodkas and posing for cell phone grip and grins with customers.
Behind the Ghostbuster, a mini liquor store with sample stations for each type of alcohol was set up for Flower Show patrons to “taste” tons of liquor. We’re guessing some never even made it to the flower show however the ones that did purchased their new favorite beverage upon exiting. There was also a pop-up beer garden but who needs beer when you can just “sample” everything under the sun and back again? Apparently everyone had the same idea as it was packed – at 3 p.m. on a Friday.
Which made going into the actual flower show much more sparkly and impressive. Our favorites are part of the photo story below. See if you can guess which movie goes with some of the flower arrangements. (Not pictured, things that make you go Hmmmm?!? which there were a few head scratchers… but maybe that’s because there was so many Disney references!)
