Diana Ross and Jason Alexander Celebrate Einstein Healthcare’s 150th Birthday at National Constitution Center
Photos, story by Cassie Hepler Yet another wonderful thing about Philadelphia (as if…) is it’s stellar health care options. From Jefferson to Penn, people on the East Coast and lucky Philly folks have access to top-notch health care. And certainly a place named after the genius (with his permission, of course) Albert Einstein himself would certainly be proud of the impressive hospital progress. Einstein Healthcare Network kicked off its 150th anniversary with a star-studded event at the National Constitution Center, celebrating its journey from a 22-bed hospital to a comprehensive network of health providers serving Philadelphia and Montgomery County. Jason Alexander (best known as George Costanza from Seinfeld) hosted while diva disco singer Diana Ross…

Photos, story by Cassie Hepler The Jessica Beth Schwartz Memorial Scholarship Fund held their annual Jessie’s Day “Give the Gift of Scholarship” fundraising event on Sunday, Nov. 8 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Independence Seaport Museum. If you were smart (unlike us) you would have remembered that the first annual Veterans Day parade was marching through Center City. We spent over an hour stuck in traffic but were determined to go and explore Jessie’s Day for a good cause. With the beautiful, picturesque Delaware River Waterfront as a backdrop, it was a walkabout away from Philadelphia’s historic district. Jessie’s Day 2015 featured a special silent auction, live music and over 15 food and drink vendors,…

Not Enough Cheesesteaks for the Hungry Crowd at the First Annual Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival
Story by Jill Beckel, Photos by Justin Schappell and Jill Beckel Local Philadelphians who attended the first annual Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival are used to ordering their wiz and wiz wit-out cheesesteaks at their favorite cheesesteak joints. Most are even willing to wait in line for their favorite. But the lines at Philadelphia Cheesesteak Festival were unlike any line that you’d typically see at your favorite cheesesteak spot. They wrapped around throughout the crowds, seeming to go on forever and ever. The event was held at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles on Saturday, Oct. 24. The cheesesteak vendors were set up in the parking lot in the K Lot section. Guests were hoping for the…

Party ’til Midnight: Dance on the Falls Bridge is a Unique Urban Experience
Story by Cassie Hepler, photos by Cassie Hepler/David Houck We admit it. We’ve been stalking the East Falls bridge since… oh, maybe 2006? A smart commuters destination choice to drive downtown (other than straight-shooting down Kelly Drive), it is a handsome bridge with greenish-blueish wrought iron spirals and swirls. Complete with Iron Pratt trusses with a granite base, it uses both gas and electric lights. In 1892, James H. Windrim, Director of Public Works for the City of Philadelphia, presented a plan for the proposed Falls Bridge, a “double decker” bridge, connecting Neil Drive to the top of Calumet Street and the Powers and Weightman Chemical Company. On June 3, 1895, the…
