Bart Blatstein Reopens Showboat Hotel to Make a Statement
Photos, story by Lou Perri Bart Blatstein, the President and CEO of Philadelphia-based Tower Investments, a leading developer of retail, entertainment, mixed use, residential and commercial properties, announced the reopening of Showboat Hotel in Atlantic City, the largest non-casino hotel in New Jersey. On Atlantic City’s storied Boardwalk, the iconic full-service hotel began its first phase of reopening with 852 oceanfront room and suites, including 38 1,100–square-foot oceanfront balcony suites. The balcony suites include 1.5 bathrooms, a living and dining area, wet bar with fridge and Jacuzzi tubs. Museum’s Art Splash Opens in Unison with Creative Africa Exhibit
Photos, story by Lou Perri Returning for its fourth year, Art Splash, the Philadelphia Museum of Art’s popular summer family program, opened on July 1 in conjunction with Creative Africa, a season of five exhibitions of African art, both historic and contemporary, currently on view in the Perelman Building. Spanning 10 weeks, Art Splash offers a dynamic set of programs focused on engaging families, including gallery explorations, hands-on workshops, guided tours, performances and family festivals. Philadelphia History Museum Celebrates 75th Anniversary in the Courtyard
Story, photos by Lou Perri The Philadelphia History Museum hosted its sixth annual Cocktails in the Courtyard garden party on Thursday, June 16, 2016. This year’s retro themed soiree held in the Museum’s Marian Mitchell Garden began at dusk and featured live DJs, local fare, a wine and Tastykake pairing, an outdoor projection display of 70’s-era slides, and the annual “Summer in the City” raffle. Guests were encouraged to dress in their “Summer of ‘75”-inspired best. The event was co-sponsored by Drink Philly. A highlight of the BBQ was a contest in which a number of card members had to create a bathing suit from a local radio station banner. Chef Couch proves to be a master creator of his selected entrees, including the signature plate, Seafood Paella, seen here, on a bed of Saffron long grain rice, features an assortment of mussels, clams, large shrimp, and a split Maine lobster tail. It’s the fourth year Brenna has competed in the pageant, and held the local title as Miss Seashore Line. She advances to the Miss America Pageant held in Atlantic City in September. Explore-NJ was there to capture the action in photos. The event, which took place at the Atlantic City Convention Center May 13-15, drew fans and families from across the region. More than 15,000 people attended the three day convention, which featured some of the comic industry’s best illustrators and creators, celebrities and vendors. Nope, not entrees in the Kentucky Derby, but light bites served to guests at the Second Kentucky Derby Day at Virginia Hotel‘s Ebbitt Room in Cape May, N.J., on Saturday, May 7th – the day of thoroughbred racing’s biggest day. Although the Ebbitt’s Room event didn’t select a chapeau winner, there were enough ladies wearing some unique bonnets to have selected a winner. Guests purchased tickets for $10 at the door.
